3) Safety

Ultimately that task of ensuring your own safety, the safety of your team, and others you may encounter, belongs to you.  All businesses require a business plan. Lets look at it in a different perspective. It really is a Management System that includes Safety in everything that you do.

Guiding Principle Example

Our company is committed to protecting the health and safety of its staff, associates and the public. It is also our goal to avoid property damage and damage to the environment. We will achieve this by building and maintaining an effective Health and Safety Management System.

Our company knows the success of the company is highly dependent upon our ability to remain competitive, avoid loss, work to control hazards and comply with applicable legislation and regulation pertaining to our business.

We are responsible for the company’s overall safety management system and we encourage participation by everyone in every so that the safety excellence the company expects can be maintained.

Now you can build, maintain and perhaps gain a competitive advantage.

Think about the cost of an injury to your team. Lost time, production, reputation, re-training, increased insurance rates..need I say more. Once you have done everything reasonably practicably to eliminate or control hazards, your chance of injuries goes way down. The key words are reasonable and practicable; reasonable in the circumstances, and practicable in time, money, training and so on.

The company philosophy on safety management must be based on an internal responsibility process, where everyone is responsible for the companys success on the track and in the shop.

Often it is difficult to critique your buddies on their behaviour, but remember, they may be gambling with your life as well as their own. Lets say you want to celebrate a win, or forget the agony of defeat with a few wobbly pop,  joy juice or what ever.  Do you really want to head off into the sunset for an 8 hour drive, knowing the individual in charge of the vehicle is impaired?  Nobody likes to wake up dead!
